Authorities are investigating a shooting involving off-duty U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent David Gonzalez, 32, of Texas, who was wounded early Friday morning, October 9, 2026, following an alleged confrontation with a 72-year-old homeowner in Fresno, California.

According to the Fresno Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of East Dudley and North Broadway Street at approximately 3:20 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert reporting gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found Gonzalez in handcuffs suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. Police said Gonzalez appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Investigators said the incident began after a resident returned home and discovered Gonzalez sleeping on her front lawn. The woman reportedly alerted her 72-year-old father, who went outside and asked Gonzalez to leave the property.
According to police, Gonzalez refused to leave and allegedly assaulted the homeowner, forcing him to the ground. Authorities said Gonzalez also allegedly attacked the woman when she attempted to intervene.
Police said the 72-year-old homeowner then retrieved a firearm and shot Gonzalez in the stomach. The woman’s boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, later arrived at the scene and placed Gonzalez in handcuffs before he was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Gonzalez is expected to be booked into the Fresno County Jail after receiving medical care. Police said the homeowner is not facing criminal charges, noting that he legally possessed the firearm used in the shooting.
ICE confirmed that Gonzalez was off duty and alone at the time of the incident, referring further questions to the Fresno Police Department.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the confrontation and shooting.
