With profound sadness, we remember Brian Sumerlin, 50, of Ayden, North Carolina, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating head-on collision on Saturday morning in Pitt County. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on Stokestown–St. Johns Road, just north of N.C. 102.

Investigators reported that Brian was driving a 2015 Chevrolet pickup northbound when a southbound 2026 Lincoln pickup, driven by 32-year-old Myles Evans of Wilson, crossed the centerline and struck his vehicle head-on. Brian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a matter of moments, an ordinary Saturday morning became a day of unimaginable sorrow. A life that still held the promise of tomorrow came to a sudden end, leaving behind memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
At 50, Brian’s life ended far too soon. His passing is a painful reminder of how unexpectedly life can change and how precious the time we share with others truly is. The loss of a loved one can leave an emptiness that words cannot fully express, as family members and friends begin to face a future forever changed by his absence.
Evans sustained serious injuries and was transported to ECU Health in Greenville for treatment. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and that charges are pending.
As Brian is remembered, may his life be honored with compassion, his memory held close by those who knew him, and his loved ones find comfort and strength in the days ahead.
May Brian Sumerlin rest in peace, and may his family, friends and community find solace as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.
