The Yuba County Coroner’s Office identified Eid on Tuesday morning. Authorities stated that the cause of death remained pending completion of an autopsy investigation.
Police arrested Samuel E. Hartbower, 33, in connection with the fatal stabbing. According to the information released by authorities, Hartbower was booked into the Yuba County Jail late Sunday night on murder charges, with bail set at $1,040,000. He is also accused of injuring another Marysville resident during the incident. The allegations remain subject to the legal process.
The attack occurred on the store’s property while shoppers were inside and customers were moving through the parking lot, turning an ordinary Sunday afternoon into a tragic event.
Beyond the circumstances of his death, Eid had a long history in the grocery industry. A 1980 graduate of Lower Lake High School, he spent decades working in grocery management. In a 2023 application for a position on the Clearlake City Council, Eid wrote that he had more than 25 years of experience in the industry, having begun his career at Economy Food Market in Clearlake while he was still in high school.
His years of work reflected a longstanding connection to the grocery business, a field that serves communities through everyday interactions and familiar routines. His sudden death leaves loved ones and community members confronting a loss that extends beyond the details of the incident.
