With broken hearts, we remember Kevin Brayden Bonner, 16, whose young life was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Walhalla, South Carolina, on Friday, October 23, 2026.
According to Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis, authorities received a report of shots fired at the Highland Glen Apartment Complex at approximately 12:23 a.m. Emergency responders arrived and found Kevin inside the apartment where he lived, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head and in cardiac arrest.
Emergency medical services personnel and members of the Walhalla Fire Department immediately began lifesaving efforts. Despite their attempts to save him, Kevin was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:29 a.m.
The Oconee County Coroner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.
Investigation Underway
The investigation into Kevin’s death is being conducted by the Walhalla Police Department, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Special Victims Unit, and the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.
An autopsy is expected to help investigators establish additional details surrounding the circumstances of his death.
Authorities have not released information about a possible suspect or what led to the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine what happened.
