With profound sadness, Omar Poole, 29, of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, is remembered following a fatal shooting inside a West Mifflin apartment early Monday morning, The shooting occurred shortly before 12:45 a.m. at Mifflin Estates on B Drive. When first responders arrived, they found Omar suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
According to investigators, Omar had been invited to the apartment by a woman who told police she was ending her relationship with 27-year-old Richard Jetter. Investigators say Jetter was also inside the apartment when the shooting occurred.
Police say Jetter told investigators that he saw Omar inside the apartment and claimed Omar was “reaching.” Jetter reportedly told police that he was defending himself, his home and his daughter.
Jetter has since been charged with criminal homicide in connection with Omar’s death. The case remains subject to the ongoing criminal investigation and legal proceedings.
For Omar’s family and friends, however, his death is about more than the circumstances of a shooting or the charges that followed.
It is about the loss of a young man whose life had only begun to unfold.
