Zachary M. Herron Orangeburg County, S.C. Obituary-Car Accident: Elloree Man Killed in Santee Crash

Family, friends, and members of the Elloree community are mourning the tragic loss of Zachary M. Herron, 26, who died Wednesday morning following a serious vehicle crash in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.

According to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office, Herron died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision. The crash occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 301 and Way Road in Santee.

South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that Herron was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on U.S. 301 when it collided with a 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer that was attempting to turn south at the intersection. Herron was the sole occupant of the Camaro, while the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Coroner Sean Fogle said weather conditions played a role in the collision, noting that the area was experiencing very foggy conditions at the time. Authorities urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving in fog, particularly near intersections where visibility can be significantly reduced.
