With heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Yonkers community are mourning the loss of Douglas L. Smith, 45, who died following a motorcycle crash in the Riverdale section of the Bronx early Thursday morning, October 1, 2026.

According to the New York City Police Department, the fatal collision occurred shortly after 1 a.m. near Broadway and West 261st Street. Smith was riding a 2007 Honda motorcycle when it collided with the right side of a 2018 Subaru Outback. The impact threw Smith from the motorcycle and onto the roadway.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and found Smith suffering from major trauma. Paramedics transported him to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to investigators, a 30-year-old man was driving the Subaru at the time of the crash and remained at the scene. As of Thursday evening, authorities had not announced any charges in connection with the collision.
