The Kemptville, Ontario, community is mourning after an 18-year-old woman from Russell lost her life following a serious two-vehicle collision on County Road 44 south of Kemptville.
The crash occurred on Sunday, September 27, 2026, shortly after 9 a.m., near Bedell Road. Six people were involved in the collision, and all six were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The 18-year-old woman was travelling as a passenger in one of the vehicles. She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Police have not publicly released her name.
The vehicle carrying the young woman had four occupants. Two other people in that vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The collision prompted a significant emergency response, with County Road 44 temporarily closed while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene. The road was later reopened after the investigation at the location was completed.
The Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police, assisted by the OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have relevant dash-camera footage and has not yet spoken with investigators to come forward.
The young woman’s death has left family, friends, and members of the wider community grieving a life lost at just 18 years old. The five other people involved are also facing recovery from injuries sustained in the devastating collision.
As investigators continue working to establish the circumstances of the crash, the community is left mourning the young Russell woman and hoping for recovery for those who survived.
