TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — With heavy hearts, we remember Harry J. Martin Jr., 70, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, whose life was tragically cut short Saturday morning after he was struck by a vehicle while walking along Alabama Highway 216 in Tuscaloosa County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash happened at approximately 11:22 a.m. Saturday, October 3, near the 4-mile marker of Alabama 216, about four miles east of Tuscaloosa.
Investigators said Martin was walking along the shoulder of the roadway when he was struck by what authorities believe was a black Chevrolet Avalanche. He suffered fatal injuries in the collision.
Following the crash, the vehicle left the scene, and the driver had not been identified at the time of the latest report. ALEA troopers continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information that could help identify the vehicle or driver to contact the Tuscaloosa Highway Patrol Post.
Behind the circumstances of a tragic roadway death was a human life — a man who had spent seven decades creating memories, building relationships and becoming part of the lives of those around him.
For family, friends and loved ones, the suddenness of Harry’s passing can make the loss especially difficult to comprehend. A familiar name, photograph, conversation or memory can now carry a weight it did not before.
A life is never fully defined by the circumstances of its final moments. Harry’s story extends far beyond the roadway where tragedy occurred — into the memories he created and the people whose lives he touched.
As the investigation continues, those mourning Harry are left to face an absence that cannot easily be filled. The coming days and weeks may bring additional answers about the circumstances of the crash, but they cannot change the profound loss felt by those who knew him.
May Harry J. Martin Jr. be remembered not simply as the victim of a tragic hit-and-run, but as a person whose life mattered. May the memories he created bring comfort to his family, friends and loved ones, and may his memory remain with them for years to come.
