UNION SPRINGS, Ala. — With profound sadness, we remember Vernell L. Faniel, 67, of Union Springs, Alabama, whose life was tragically cut short Friday afternoon in a devastating two-vehicle collision on U.S. 29 in Pike County, approximately three miles north of Troy.

Vernell was traveling as a passenger in a 2013 Toyota Corolla when the vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a 2008 Nissan Altima. She suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In an instant, a journey that had begun like any other became a heartbreaking final chapter. The roadway that afternoon carried more than vehicles; it became the setting for a moment that would forever change the lives of everyone connected to Vernell.
The crash also left several others injured. Steven Wilson, 54, of Troy, who was driving the Toyota, and Herman S. Faniel Jr., 41, of Banks, another passenger, were transported to Southeast Health in Dothan for treatment. Vanquavious V. Flournoy, 31, of Brundidge, who was driving the Nissan, was also injured and airlifted to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery.
But beyond the vehicles, the investigation and the roadway where the collision occurred was a human life — a woman whose story deserved far more chapters.
Vernell L. Faniel was more than a name connected to a tragic crash. She was a person with a life, relationships, memories and moments that mattered to the people who knew her.
Her passing leaves behind a silence that cannot easily be filled. Yet the memories of a person do not disappear with their final journey. They remain in photographs, conversations, familiar places, acts of kindness and the countless moments shared with those who mattered.
As family, friends and loved ones mourn, Vernell’s memory can serve as a reminder that behind every tragedy is a human life — a life that mattered and will continue to be remembered.
May Vernell L. Faniel be remembered with dignity and compassion, and may the love and memories surrounding her bring comfort to everyone grieving her loss.
