Jason Soloman Obituary, Cause of Death: Jason Soloman, 17, Remembered as Traverse City Central Community Mourns His Loss

With profound sadness, the Traverse City Central High School community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jason Soloman, 17, a student-athlete whose life was tragically cut short Saturday morning following a devastating crash on Center Road in Michigan’s Old Mission Peninsula.

The crash occurred at approximately 8 a.m. when the vehicle Jason was riding in as a passenger left the roadway and struck a tree. Jason was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Center Road was closed for approximately six hours as authorities investigated the collision.

But to Traverse City Central, Jason was far more than a name connected to a tragic accident. He was a young man whose presence had become part of the school community and the Traverse City Central football family.

A senior member of the varsity football team, Jason proudly wore jersey No. 54. His teammates and coaches are now facing the unimaginable reality of continuing a season without someone who had become an important part of their football family. The program publicly expressed its heartbreak and said Jason’s impact would never be forgotten.

On Sunday evening, students, families and community members gathered outside Traverse City Central High School to remember Jason and support one another through the grief. Hugs were shared, memories were recalled, and heartfelt messages were written for his family.

In moments of sudden loss, words often feel far too small. A school that is normally filled with the energy of students, classrooms and Friday-night football was instead brought together by silence, tears and the shared pain of losing someone so young.

Jason’s football family has promised to carry his memory forward. Traverse City Central’s next game, scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m. against Bay City Western, will be played in honor of No. 54.

Authorities continue investigating the crash. Deputies have reported that speed and alcohol are suspected factors, though the investigation remains ongoing.

At just 17 years old, Jason’s life was only beginning to unfold. There should have been more Friday nights beneath stadium lights, more memories with teammates and friends, more milestones with family, and more chapters still waiting to be written.

Instead, those who knew him are left to carry his memory forward — through the stories they share, the friendships he formed, the moments they will never forget, and the No. 54 jersey that now represents far more than a number on a football uniform.

Some lives may be brief, but the impact they leave behind can last forever.

May Jason Soloman rest peacefully, and may his family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Traverse City Central community find strength and comfort in the days ahead.
