With heavy hearts, the Austin community is mourning the loss of Yesenia Elaine Perfitt, 18, whose life was tragically cut short Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded at approximately 4:20 p.m. on October 3 to a collision involving a sedan and a pickup truck at the intersection of FM 973 Road and Pearce Lane. Yesenia was a passenger in the sedan and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The crash remains under investigation.
For Yesenia’s family, friends and loved ones, the circumstances of the crash are only one part of a much greater loss.
At just 18 years old, Yesenia was still at the beginning of her life. There were dreams still waiting to be pursued, places she had yet to see, memories still waiting to be created and countless ordinary moments that should have been part of her future.
Instead, her life came to a heartbreaking end in a moment that no family could have expected.
Her passing has left behind a painful emptiness for everyone who knew and loved her. The loss of someone so young is difficult to comprehend, especially when so much life remained ahead.
Behind the details of a fatal crash was a young woman whose life mattered — someone who was loved, remembered and cherished by the people whose lives she touched.
Yesenia was more than a name in a traffic-fatality report. She was 18 years old, with a future that had not yet been fully written.
Some losses leave a silence that words cannot fill. For Yesenia’s loved ones, the memories they carry will now become precious reminders of the young life they were blessed to know, even though they were given far too little time.
Though her life ended far too soon, may Yesenia Elaine Perfitt be remembered for the life she lived, the people she loved and the memories she leaves behind.
May Yesenia Elaine Perfitt rest peacefully, and may her family, friends and loved ones find strength, comfort and peace as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
