The Bloomington, Indiana, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Noah Slinkard, 24, whose life was tragically cut short Thursday night, October 8, 2026, following a fatal shooting in Monroe County.

According to authorities, officers responded at approximately 8:15 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of North Illinois Street. When police arrived, Noah was found near the front door of an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where, despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m.
Investigators said Noah had been sitting on an apartment porch with another individual when a suspect allegedly approached, removed a handgun from his waistband, shot him, and then walked away from the scene.
Police later arrested 23-year-old Jaymon Trey Gilreath, who has been charged with murder. Authorities said a 9 mm handgun in a holster was later recovered near a park bench in the 1300 block of West 13th Street and taken into evidence. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Behind every tragedy is a person whose life mattered. Noah was more than the circumstances surrounding his final moments — he was a son, a friend, and someone whose presence brought meaning to the lives of those who knew and loved him.
At 24 years old, Noah still had so many moments ahead of him — memories yet to create, places yet to see, and chapters of life that should have continued unfolding. His sudden passing leaves behind a painful absence that words cannot fully describe.
As Noah’s family, friends, and loved ones navigate this unimaginable loss, they are left to hold onto the memories they shared and the impact he made during his life.
May Noah Slinkard rest in peace. May his memory remain a source of comfort and may everyone grieving his loss find strength, support, and peace in the days ahead.
